A tracker for the newborn weeks

The short answer

In the first weeks you are being asked three questions — how often she feeds, how many wet and dirty diapers there were, and how she slept — and you are being asked them on no sleep. Our Baby Day answers all three from entries you can make one-handed: a widget or Lock Screen tap, or a sentence typed into Ask.

It then turns them into something readable: the day’s counts, a scored night, and sleep guidance for her age with its source named. No setup, no account required, and nothing to configure before the first feed.

Built for the hand that is free, which in the newborn weeks is one hand at most.

Her night, scored, with the night's wakes and feeds laid out
The night you half-remember, scored in the morning — bedtime, wakes and the longest stretch.

The three things the midwife asks

  • Feeds. Breastfeeding with left and right clocks and the side to start on next, or bottles in ml or oz.
  • Diapers. Wet, dirty or both, with rash and blowout flags — so the count you are asked for at the check-up is a number, not an estimate.
  • Sleep. A timer that knows nap from night by the time of day, and a score for the night once it is over.

The rest of the newborn admin

Vitamin D and iron drops sit on a checklist of what is due today. Visits, vaccines and medicines go in the health record. Firsts get a photo and how old she was, and one photo a day builds up without you deciding to start a project. Tummy time has a daily target for her age.

You do not have to sign up first

The sign-in screen has a skip button. Everything above works on your own phone with no account, and you can sign in later without losing anything — which is worth knowing at 2am on day three. Sharing with your partner is the one thing that needs an account, and it can wait until morning. See also what does and does not leave your phone.

Questions people ask

Is there a newborn setup to do first?
No. Add her name and birthday and start logging; everything else can be filled in whenever.
Does it tell me whether she is sleeping enough?
It compares her sleep against the published ranges for her age and names the source (AAP, AASM or NHS). It is guidance, not medical advice.
Can I track diapers by wet and dirty separately?
Yes — wet, dirty or both, with flags for a rash or a blowout.
